Non-Resident Nepali (NRN) ID
From February 2023, the Embassy has started issuing digital NRN ID card, instead of the handwritten/computer typed card.
Please fill out the application below, take a printout of the filled-out application and submit to the Embassy in person the printed application together with below mentioned required documents and items.

Before you start to fill out the online application form below, please get ready the scanned copies (soft copies) of the following documents/items in your computer:
- Naturalization certificate, or citizenship certificate of France or Portugal, or French/Portuguese birth certificate if the applicant was born in France or Portugal.
- Biographic data page of your current French/Portuguese passport.
- Nepali citizenship of the applicant (if the applicant remained a Nepali citizen in the past, first generation NRN) Or, Copy of Nepali citizenship of the father or mother of the applicant (if the applicant is second generation NRN, i.e. the applicant is born as foreign national but his/her father or mother was Nepali citizen) Or, Copy of Nepali citizenship of grandfather/grandmother of the applicant (if the applicant is third generation NRN, i.e. the applicant and his/her father or mother are born foreign national but the applicant’s grandfather/grandmother was citizens of Nepal) and the document that proves the relationship between the applicant and the grandparent;
- Recent passport size photo (45 mm in height and 35 mm in width) (400*300- pixel size);
- Applicant’s signature (Please sign on a white paper, scan, crop into an appropriate size in a JPEG format, and do not forget to submit this piece of paper with your signature along with other documents).

- For ‘FOREIGN CITIZEN OF NEPALI ORIGIN’
All copies of the required documents should be self-attested (by writing “true copy” at the back of the copies with signature of the applicant and date signed.
- Print out of the completed online application form which is signed by the applicant.
- A copy of French/Portuguese Citizenship Certificate, or French/Portuguese birth certificate if the applicant was born in France/Portugal.
- A copy of French/Portuguese Passport.
- Copy of Nepali citizenship of the applicant (if the applicant remained a Nepali citizen in the past, first generation NRN)
Or,
4.b. Copy of Nepali citizenship of the father or mother of the applicant (if the applicant is second generation NRN, i.e. the applicant is born as foreign national, but his/her father or mother were Nepali citizen)
Or,
4.c. Copy of Nepali citizenship of grandfather or grandmother of the applicant (if the applicant is third generation NRN, i.e. the applicant and his/her father or mother are born foreign national, but the applicant’s grandfather/grandmother were citizens of Nepal) and the document that proves the relationship between the applicant and the grandparent.
- Document/proof of any profession or business in the country of current nationality, (if applicable)
- Document/proof of employment in the country of current nationality, (if applicable)
- Self-addressed prepaid return envelope with tracking number, (Not Required for self-pickup)
- Applicant’s signature signed on a plain white paper.
Renewal
Same requirements as above with a copy of the previous NRN ID
Loss/Damage
Same requirements as above with a copy of the lost/damaged NRN ID and a self-declaration letter declaring that the ID was lost (in case of loss only)
- For ‘NEPALI NATIONALS CURRENTLY LIVING ABROAD’
All copies of the required documents should be self-attested (by writing “true copy” at the back of the copies with signature of the applicant and date signed.
- Print out of the completed online application form duly which is signed by the applicant.
- Nepali citizenship certificate and its copy.
- Nepali Passport and copy of valid passport biographic data page.
- Documents related to business in the current country of residence.
- Document/proof of employment in the current country of residence.
- Self-addressed prepaid return envelope with tracking number. (Not Required for self-pickup).
Renewal
Same requirements as above with a copy of the previous NRN ID.
Loss/Damage
Same requirements as above with a copy of the lost/damaged NRN ID and a self-declaration letter declaring that the ID was lost (in case of loss only).

Notes:
- Application will be returned if the required documents are not complete and duly signed by the applicant.
