Ambassador of Nepal to France

 

His Excellency Mr. Sudhir Bhattarai is the Ambassador of Nepal to the French Republic and Permanent Delegate of Nepal to UNESCO with concurrent accreditation to the Principality of Andorra and Principality of Monaco. He has served as Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kathmandu, Nepal until his arrival in France on  04 October 2023.

A career diplomat, H.E. Sudhir Bhattarai joined Nepal Foreign Service in November 1995. He worked in different divisions and sections at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kathmandu until March 1998. From April 1998 to January 1999 as a Section Officer he worked in different divisions in the Ministry and Consular/Passport Department.

He served as Second Secretary at the Embassy of Nepal in Colombo, Sri Lanka from February 1999 to March 2003.

Back to the Ministry after the completion of his four-year tenure in Colombo, he worked in SAARC Division, United Nations, International Organizations and International Law Division, Multilateral Economic Affairs Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs till November 2006.

He completed a four-year tenure as First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations, New York, USA in 2010.

He served as Counsellor at the Embassy of Nepal in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from April 2012 to August 2014. Right after, he served as Acting Consul General at the Consulate of Nepal in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia until December 2015.

As Deputy Chief of Mission/Minister Counsellor, he worked at the Embassy of Nepal and Mission to the European Union (EU) in Brussels, Belgium between July 2017 and July 2021. He was promoted to Joint Secretary in August 2021 and served at International Affairs and Hospitality Division at the Office of the President of Nepal and South Asia Division in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kathmandu from July 2022 to November 2022.

H.E. the Ambassador has Master of Science in Physics from Tribhuvan University, Nepal and received many Diplomatic trainings including United Nations Disarmament fellowship in 2006.

H.E. Bhattarai was born in 1970. He is married to Mrs. Sunu Bhattarai and they have a son and a daughter.
